The Al-Zeebaree family from Iraq, including Julia, Michael, Fadi, Sarah, Philip, and Bashar, finally arrived in Fort Frances from Beirut, Lebanon in mid-November and now are settling in thanks to the local “Families for Families” committee. The arrival of a second refugee family, originally expected last week, has been delayed.

The Canada Day parade was a hit this year, drawing two dozen floats and decorated vehicles in celebration of the nation’s 150th birthday. Activities at Point Park also were a success, including a spectacular fireworks display some folks still are talking about.

The Metropolitan Yurij, spiritual head of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church in Canada, was in Fort Frances in July to lead a special service commemorating the 70th anniversary of St. George’s Ukrainian Orthodox Church here.
