Dear Mr. Editor: I am writing this letter to express how disappointed we are with the Ministry of Natural Resources’ decision to close Boffin Lake to overnight camping. My family and I have used that same spot for the past 18 years for our family’s holidays. In that time, we […]
Letters
All newspapers encourage letters to the editor and intend to print the opinions of their readers with as few restrictions as possible. The Fort Frances Times is no exception.
Rules governing letters to the editor in the Fort Frances Times are:
All letters must be signed, and the name of the writer will be printed with all letters published.
The writer must submit his/her letter in person and satisfactory identify themselves, or submit a telephone number to be used to verify that the letter was actually written by the person whose name is included on it, delaying publication if necessary to make the verification.
Letter will not be accepted from people outside the local coverage area unless the letters are written on a topic of primarily local interest.
If a letter attacks another individual or group, the Times will allow a response in the same edition.
Letters should not exceed 300 words and may be edited for length and content.
Mr. Editor: I was disappointed to see that the OPP press release, headlined “Two teens charged in goat killing,” had been relegated to page A3 of the April 12 edition of the Fort Frances Times and did not include the names of those involved; even though both the Thunder Bay […]
Dear editor: Wow, what an experience for our boys! The Belle River Nobles’ hockey team would like to thank the Fort Frances OFSAA committee for a memory of a lifetime. From the first bus ride into your town on a late Sunday night, we knew there was something different about […]
Hello: I just wanted to express my sincere gratitude and appreciation for our MP, Don Rusnak, for taking a trip to Israel. Israel, although small, is an important country in the world. It constantly is in the news and has endured much hostility from other countries. So it was a […]
Dear editor: Town council is letting us down by even considering the removal of traffic lights just to save a few hundred dollars, especially near an elementary school. A four-way stop makes it even more dangerous for children to cross. Instead of watching the light, they have to watch for […]
Dear Mike: This letter is, in part, a response to Coun. Doug Kitowski’s question in the Feb. 22 issue of the Fort Frances Times headlined: “Library hours may be reduced.” Yes, Coun. Kitowski, there is something special about our library! In fact, the Fort Frances Public Library Technology Centre is […]
Dear editor: This seems to be the year for celebrations: Canada’s 150th birthday and Elizabeth’s 65 years as our Queen. Sixty-five years ago, there was the building of the ’52 Canadians Arena and our own Fort Frances Canadians won the coveted Allan Cup in this new arena. The present St. […]
Dear editor: Kenora MP Bob Nault says the federal government gave electoral reform “a good go” and that there was no consensus. Wrong. A consensus of Canadians does want to change the electoral system. They expected Justin Trudeau to keep his party’s promise to change the electoral system. The all-party […]
Dear sir: It is always amusing to read the press releases from the Rainy River District School Board and the one published on Feb. 8 (“Student access to libraries enhanced”) was no exception. It is always a question not of what are they revealing, but of what they are trying […]
Dear editor: I’m writing in response to the letter to the editor from Gordon Woollard in the Wednesday, Feb. 1 edition of the Times. My name is Angela and I am one of the owners of Rainy River Cannabis Collective (R.R.C.C.) First, I would like to thank Mr. Woollard for […]
Dear editor: This letter is being written (uberimmae fidei) in looking for a response. Having lived in this community for 61 years, I will start off with a visa. The maintenance of the roads and sidewalks is an embarrassment. I do not blame the equipment operators but lean more towards […]
Dear editor: I am a resident of the Fort Frances area and formerly of Fort Frances. I also am a wood hauler in this district. Town council’s decision the amend Traffic Control Bylaw 21/14 to prohibit heavy truck parking on Scott Street is troubling. There are many truck drivers living […]
