The Fort Frances Family Centre has been running 24 hours a day since Saturday in response to the bitterly cold weather the area has been experiencing of late.
The centre, located at 272 Scott St., usually runs from noon-4 p.m. but decided to open around the clock to help people get out of the cold and warm up.
Since announcing the centre would remain open through the night, the community has rallied to provide donations of food, blankets, and pillows.
Monica Sus said they are extremely grateful for the donations received so far, but now are in desperate need of monetary donations to pay the bills and costs associated with running the centre day and night.
A schedule has been made for volunteers to keep the centre open 24/7 over the next few days.
But those who also would be able to volunteer some of their time are asked to contact Sus at 271-2839 or reach out via the centre’s Facebook entitled “Fort Frances Family Centre.”
It is important to note the centre is not a shelter but rather a “warming centre,” where people can get out of the cold, warm up, and have something to eat.
The centre is thankful to everyone who has supported it so far and plans to remain open during the cold snap.
