Three of the four Muskie court teams came away with wins here Thursday afternoon against the Kenora Broncos.
Both the junior and senior girls’ volleyball teams earned four-set victories to improve their league-best records to an identical 7-0 and clinch top spot heading into the NorWOSSA playoffs.
The juniors won by scores of 25-10, 25-19, 24-26, and 25-16 while the seniors took the match by 25-19, 25-16, 22-25, and 25-15 margins.
In boys’ basketball action, the senior Muskies rolled to a 85-61 thumping of the Broncos to improve their league-best record to 6-1 and clinch first place.
Kobi Ward and Mike Vanderaa led the way with 28 and 26 points, respectively.
Wyatt Richards added seven points while Sean Huziak chipped in six.
But it wasn’t good news for the juniors, who fell 59-38 to the Broncos that dropped their league record to 2-5.
Santino Smith scored a team-high 12 points in that one while Jordon Bazylewski chipped in nine.
Brett Schram scored eight points and Jayden Woolsey added five.
The juniors then competed at the Kenora Invitational Tournament over the weekend, where they compiled a 1-2 record to wind up in seventh place.
Fort High opened tourney play Friday evening with a 52-44 loss to the Sioux Lookout Warriors.
Then after losing 43-38 to the Atikokan Voyageurs on Saturday morning, the black-and-gold ended on a positive note with a 41-17 romp over the Red Lake Rams.
All four Muskie teams now have a two-week break for exams.
The senior hoopsters next will be in action at a tournament in Kenora on Feb. 1-2 while the senior spikers will be at a tourney in Thunder Bay those same two days.
All four Muskie teams then will conclude NorWOSSA regular-season action against the host Dryden Eagles on Feb. 5.
