A load of good laughs, great times, and awesome performances are coming to the Townshend Theatre later this week.
Running Friday to Sunday (Oct. 26-28) from 7-9 p.m., “The Brothers Grimm Spectaculathon” will be performed by Fort High students in Grades 7-12.
The play is a giant mashup of the Brothers Grimm fairy tales–including Snow White, Little Red Riding Hood, Cinderella, and many more–to create one spectacular performance.
“This one’s really all over the place,” said stage director Dany Michaud. “There’s lots of plot twists and things you don’t expect.
“It should be pretty interesting.”
The weaving together of classic fairly tales creates a level of organized chaos that makes for a quite humorous two-hour performance.
The 25-person cast really has emphasized the comedic aspects of the show, and added a bit of flare to their character’s roles to make them extra entertaining.
“It’s pretty impressive that they can memorize their scripts and bring in their own little touches, too, which is always awesome,” Michaud enthused.
“We obviously guide them and direct them and give them some ideas, but they make it their own.”
What makes the performance worthwhile is all the talent set to hit the stage, Michaud lauded.
“The kids are amazing and the idea of it, even the writing of it, like how it’s all brought together into one giant fairy tale, makes it’s pretty fun,” he added.
With a tight deadline to prepare for the play, having started rehearsing in mid-September, the students have been working extremely hard to ready themselves.
Others also have been working tirelessly to make visually-appealing props and stage designs in time for the show.
“It’s not just the acting,” Michaud stressed. “We want to make sure that the stuff that is on stage looks good and is aesthetically pleasing.”
He is encouraging everyone who enjoys a good laugh and theatrical production to head down to the Townshend Theatre for an awesome show.
“Come support what we do at the school,” Michaud said. “The kids put a lot of work into this.”
Tickets, available at the door, cost $7 for adults and $5 for students/seniors.
