The Rainy River District Library Cooperative has been awarded the Minister’s Award for Innovation-Small Library category at the Ontario Public Library Awards Gala on Thursday, Feb. 1 in conjunction with OLA’s Super Conference in Toronto.
This prestigious award recognizes innovations in library service that positively contribute to a community and public libraries.
The Rainy River District Library Cooperative is a partnership between the Fort Frances Public Library Technology Centre, Atikokan Public Library, Emo Public Library, Rainy River District School Board, Northwest Catholic District School Board, and the Seven Generations Education Institute.
It is an innovative partnership that sees education sector and library sector organizations come together to better serve their communities.
Many students within the Rainy River District experience barriers to accessing public library services, both economic and geographic in nature.
The cooperative has removed these barriers and ensured that all students have equitable access to community-based learning supports.
Together, the project partners have made it possible for all students to access both an extensive collection of eBooks and exceptional public library services.
