Arctic Cat fought hard throughout but came out on the wrong side of the scoresheet once again in Fort Frances Men’s Basketball League action Tuesday night at Fort High.
Coming into the final game of the night at the bottom of the league standings, Arctic Cat was hungry for a win but also looking to field a full team for the entire 40 minutes.
The players showed up, and Arctic Cat fought hard against a Sunset Landscaping team that only had lost one game all year, but came up just short with a 65-56 loss.
Down 10-4 early, Arctic Cat closed to within three at the half and even managed to hold a 40-39 lead early in the second half.
But Sunset fought its way back and claimed the victory.
Jake McIntosh was excellent from beyond the arc for Arctic Cat, draining seven “treys” en route to a team-high 25 points.
Morgan Anderson had 10.
Josh Mastin has a team-high 31 points to pace Sunset.
The first game of the night had the senior Muskies facing the undefeated RBC Lions.
But the game officially was recorded as a forfeit by the black-and-gold due to most of the team being away to study for exams.
The Richards family joined the Muskies who were there so a game could be played, with the final score in favour of RBC by a 87-49 margin.
Then in the second game of the night, the Revco Renegades were looking to exact some revenge against the BDO Ballerz.
BDO handed Revco a defeat that started a three-game losing streak for the squad, but it was the Renegades who came out on top this time with a convincing 59-43 win.
Revco came out strong, building a 29-21 lead at the break. Brad Wardas was on fire in the first half, sinking five “threes.”
He did, however, cool down in the second half but John Sivonen put on a three-point shooting clinic of his own–draining five to help pace Revco to the victory.
Wally Tabash scored a team-high 18 points for BDO.
RBC leads the league with a perfect 8-0 record.
Sunset Landscaping (7-1) is right behind, with Revco and the Muskies tied for third at 3-5.
BDO (2-6) occupies fourth place while Arctic Cat (1-7) remains in the basement.
Only three more weeks of the regular season remains before the playoffs are slated to begin Feb. 20.
