Members of the Border Figure Skating Club fared well at the first-ever Northwestern Ontario Futures competition held back on Dec. 9 in Kenora.
Rachel Ste. Croix claimed gold in the STAR 1 freeskate.
In the STAR 2 freeskate, Jordyn Seguin took home gold while Whitney Williamson snagged silver and Lyla Moen claimed bronze.
In the STAR 4 freeskate, Hallee Nugent snagged fourth place.
Williamson claimed gold in the STAR 2 Elements, with Ste. Croix and Seguin both taking bronze.
In STAR 4 elements, Nugent finished in first.
The STAR 2 team, consisting of Ste. Croix, Williamson, and Moen, achieved a silver-medal finish.
The STAR 3 team, consisting of Nugent and Seguin, grabbed silver, as well.
Coach Ashley Cumming said some of the events are report cards, where they are compared to a standard, so they do not rank but rather earn an achievement level.
Other events do use a ranking system.
Cumming also noted this was the first time this competition was held, and that the girls had a lot of fun and accomplished many personal achievements.
Up next for the local club is an “Ice Box Days” competition that takes place Jan. 21 over in International Falls.
The Sunset Country competition will follow Jan. 26-28 in Dryden.
