Frosty wonderland

rising steam

Duane Hicks

Steam could be seen rising off the lower river on Saturday morning while, below, the rail bridge over the Ranier rapids almost looked like a painting frozen in time. The bitter cold over the weekend may have kept many folks indoors but those who braved the minus-20 to minus-30 C temperatures, plus the wind chill, were rewarded with some beautiful scenes like these. If the forecast is to be believed, the mercury could rise to as mild as minus-10 by Sunday.
