Fort teams tops in Emo

The FFGWHA Novice Ice Devils and Novice Heat, along with the host Emo Express, all went 2-1 in the round-robin portion of a recent tournament there.
A tie-breaker put the Ice Devils in the gold-medal final against Emo while the Heat dropped down to the bronze-final versus Kenora.
The Ice Devils wound up edging the Express 5-4 in a shootout in the final.
Tied at 4-4 after regulation time, overtime was unable to resolve anything.
Then in the shootout, goalie Kinsley McCoy was perfect–stopping all of Emo’s shooters to give the Ice Devils the win.
The Heat also had a close final against the Kenora Red Dogs.
The Fort crew were able to get the win in regulation time, with Hannah Pope notching a pair of goals and Sayler Easton netting the other one.
Peyton Sisco backstopped the team to victory.
In round-robin play, the Ice Devils beat the Red Dogs 4-3, with goals going to Harmony Yerxa (two), Makayla Gibbs, and Aelise Lucas-Engberg.
Then they blanked the Emo Express 3-0 on goals by Yerxa (two) and Gibbs.
Kinsley McCoy earned the shutout.
The Ice Devils finished off with a 5-4 loss to the Heat 5-4.
Hannah Pope led the Heat with four goals while Easton notched the other one.
Gibbs, Erika Danylchuk, Jorja Guertin, and Lucas-Engberg replied for the Ice Devils.
The Heat earlier lost 4-2 to the Express before beating the Red Dogs 3-1.
Meanwhile, the FFGWHA Atom Black Knights took first place in the Emo Atom girls’ tournament, rounding out a perfect weekend by downing Warroad 10UB 4-1 in the final.
Marissa Kenny and Kallie Boshey each had a pair of goals while Shayna Shute and Harper Gunderson split the duties in goal.
In round-robin play, the Black Knights blanked the Emo Express 5-0 on goals by Boshey (two), Kenny, Jasmine Kinnear, and Savannah Marchuk.
Gunderson and Shute shared the shutout.
Then they beat Warroad 3-1, with Kali Tessier (two) and Kinnear getting the goals in that one.
