An array of 10 types of butter tarts awaited the judges of “The Best Butter Tart Bake-off” on Saturday afternoon at Betty’s while “Santa Claus” made a special trip here from the North Pole to be among the celebrity judges that also included Doug Anderson, who always has wanted to judge a butter tart contest, as well as Judy Kielczewski, Will Anderson, Kim Gardiman, Linda Plumridge, and Duane Hicks. Colleen Fadden of Morson won first place, earning a $50 gift certificate from Betty’s, while Helen Cousineau of Fort Frances took second place ($40). Maggie Tarrant earned an honourable mention ($30). The other seven tart-makers each got $20 gift certificates just for participating.
