The Frank Cowan Company Home Town Program and Gillons’ Insurance Brokers presented the Town of Fort Frances and the Township of La Vallee each with $5,000 last week.
The funding for Fort Frances will be used to purchase accessible picnic tables for various local parks.
“We welcome the opportunity to help the Town of Fort Frances remove barriers and provide a space that is accessible to everyone in the community,” said Larry Ryan, president of Frank Cowan Company, which is a municipal insurance provider.
“This grant has allowed the Town of Fort Frances to purchase four new composite picnic tables that are fully wheelchair-accessible to be placed in four of our most frequented outdoor eating spaces,” noted Operations and Facilities manager Travis Rob.
“These tables help the town to further itself in gaining compliance with the AODA [Accessibility for Ontarians with Disabilities Act], and particularly the Integrated Accessibility Standards for Outdoor Public Use Eating Areas,” he added.
“We are very pleased to support the Town of Fort Frances’ accessible picnic table initiative,” said Gillons’ CEO and president Myron Romaniuk.
“As a Fort Frances community business, these improvements help make Fort Frances a great place to live for all residents and especially those with accessibility needs,” he remarked.
“We are pleased to support Frank Cowan Company’s Home Town Program because it provides us with an opportunity to make a positive difference in the lives of Canadians, and the broader well-being of our communities, by supporting initiatives that are important to municipalities across Canada,” echoed Terry Reidel, executive director of The Cowan Foundation.
Meanwhile, the funding for La Vallee will be used to help build a pavilion building at the Devlin Ball Park.
The pavilion will be used to host family picnics and birthday parties, as well as by local youth and adult ball teams.
“On behalf of the La Vallee township and council, I would like to thank Frank Cowan Company and Gillons’ for their generous donations,” said La Vallee Reeve Ken McKinnon.
“These funds will enable us to commence the early stages of building a pavilion at the ball park, which will be enjoyed by members of our community and others for years to come,” he noted.
“We are pleased to support the Devlin Ball Park pavilion project,” said Romaniuk.
“Having top-quality recreational venues like the one in Devlin are important to our district, and in helping our area residents maintain a healthy lifestyle,” he added.
“When municipalities can provide recreational venues that promote a healthy lifestyle, the community benefits,” agreed Ryan.
“We are pleased that the Frank Cowan Company’s Home Town Program was able to support this important initiative.”
