As Canadians focus on the upcoming holiday season and consider shopping for gifts, the Nature Conservancy of Canada (NCC) is trying to relieve the pressure and stress.
Instead, people can give the gift of adopting local species.
The bald eagle is one of most majestic wild animals found in Northern Ontario.
But Ontario’s boreal forest also is known for the snowy owl, the Canada Lynx, the wolf, and the moose-wild animals the NCC is working to protect.
The Nature Conservancy of Canada is offering its 23rd-annual “Gifts of Canadian Nature.” The alternative gift-giving program offers symbolic gifts, including the St. Lawrence Valley habitat.
The online catalogue makes it easy.
These gifts, in turn, will help the Nature Conservancy of Canada give wildlife a fighting chance by protecting our country’s natural spaces and the species they sustain.
“These are great gifts for anyone on your list, especially the nature-lover and the outdoor enthusiast,” said John Lounds, NCC president and CEO.
“Here is a way for people to ensure the gifts they give and receive are unique and memorable,” he noted.
“People can avoid mall line-ups, buy local, and help us care for our natural spaces and wildlife.”
With any purchase of a “Gift of Canadian Nature,” the recipient will receive a full-colour certificate, a stunning 2018 Nature Conservancy of Canada wall calendar showcasing some of the country’s most beautiful landscapes, and an eight-page wildlife booklet full of facts about the species that symbolically was adopted for them.
A paperless gift option also is available.
Charitable tax receipts will be issued for all gift purchases.
