Press Release
Following the success of last year’s Constituency Youth Council, local MP Don Rusnak has formed a second one.
The purpose of the Youth Advisory Council to allow youths the chance to discuss key issues, such as employment and education, building stronger communities, as well as the environment and innovation, with their MP.
Students selected for this program will be a part of a committee with other youths selected across their region to take part in a one year program where they are able to speak about and debate a variety of issues and topics.
Through the past Constituency Youth Council, we have found it provides an incredible opportunity for both the elected official and the youths by providing a new perspective for all involved.
The first council meeting will be held in late November.
The members of the 2017-18 Thunder Bay-Rainy River Constituency Youth Council are Jessica Topp, Sanjida Rashid, Christopher Armiento, Amy Stewart, Jaimi Plater, and Angeline Redford.
“I am very excited to announce the formation of the second-ever Thunder Bay-Rainy River Constituency Youth Council,” said Rusnak.
“This council is made up of young people from across Northwestern Ontario, and I am looking forward to meeting with them to start discussing their goals and ideas for the year ahead,” he noted.
“Investing in opportunities for youth is part of our government’s plan to support young Canadians.
“I am very excited to have a chance to hear from [Thunder Bay-Rainy River] youth about the issues that matter to them,” he added.
“As someone who aspires to be a part of Canadian politics in the future, the Thunder Bay-Rainy River Youth Council is precisely the kind of opportunity that would benefit me,” said Rashid.
“In the long-term, I hope to gain insight into politics so I have a grasp on what I can do later in life as a politician,” she added.
“As of now, I am eager to create relationships with people of similar interests as mine and instigate tangible, positive change for Northwestern Ontario,” Rashid enthused.
