The eagerly-anticipated book featuring the pioneer photography of William Hampden Tener will be launched next Thursday (Nov. 30) at the Fort Frances Museum.
Copies of “Rainy River Valley Beginnings” will be available at the launch, which will be held from 5-7 p.m. upstairs at the museum.
Local historian and author Merv Ahrens also will be there to make a presentation at 5:30 p.m., as well as to field questions about the book and his research on Tener.
“I think people are kind of excited about it,” museum curator Sherry George noted yesterday.
“I’m surprised by the number of calls we’re getting to reserve a book,” she added.
“I am feeling good about it.”
A total of 1,000 copies have been printed, so those who are not on the list also will be able to get a copy at the launch.
The book costs $25.
After the launch, the book will be available at various district locations, which will be confirmed in the near future.
Refreshments also will be served at Thursday’s launch.
As previously reported, all of the photos in the book were created from Tener’s collection in the Ontario Archives.
In related news, the final exhibit of 2017, “150 Years of Fashion,” will be on display at the museum until the end of the year.
This exhibit features clothing on loan from the Costume Museum of Canada, as well as local longtime fashionista B.E. June Smith.
