The Borderland Community Orchestra will spread holiday cheer through music on Tuesday, Dec. 5 at 7 p.m. at the Backus Community Center in International Falls.
Under the direction of Katherine Williams of Emo, the orchestra includes musicians from both sides of the border.
Falls area musicians include John Faith, Jane Barthell, Carol Belanger, Kathy Tompkins, Eric Koperda, Aron Bohnert, and Kendra Schmidt.
Practices are held on Tuesday evenings at Donald Young School in Emo, and participants travel from as far away as Williams, Mn.
Christmas and holiday music will be featured in the concert, with guest soloist Melanie Williams of Emo.
Some of the selections included in the program are “A Mad Russian’s Christmas,” “Wizards in Winter,” “A Canadian Brass Christmas,” and Fantasia on “We Three Kings.”
Mika Kooistra from Emo, who is graduating this year, is the solo violinist on “Themes” from Scheherazade.
Families are encouraged to come and bring their children.
Admission is $12 for adults, $6 for students, and $25 for families (pre-kindergarten children are free).
Tickets are available at Betty’s in Fort Frances, the Backus office and City Drugs in the Falls, and the door.
Refreshments will be served during intermission.
