Kenora-Rainy River MPP Sarah Campbell announced yesterday she will not be seeking re-election in next June’s provincial election.
Campbell, who is expecting a second child in February, said she will continue to represent the riding until the election.
She first was elected to Queen’s Park in 2011, succeeding former MPP and provincial NDP leader Howard Hampton, then won re-election handily in 2014.
The Kenora-Rainy River NDP Riding Association has not announced a date for its nomination meeting.
In related news, former Kenora MP Greg Rickford will be the PC candidate in Kenora-Rainy River for the next provincial election.
He won the nomination by acclamation at the local riding association’s meeting held Saturday in Dryden.
District resident Douglas Judson had been seeking the nomination but said in a statement he withdrew his candidacy last week to support Rickford’s bid.
There is no word yet on when the Kenora-Rainy River Provincial Liberal Association will hold its nomination meeting.
Former Emo resident Anthony Leek, who represented the party in the last two provincial elections, announced in August he would not seek the candidacy this time around.
Leek now lives in Kenora.
