A new photo initiative is “focusing” on what it means to be Métis.
Called the Métis Art Gallery Program, the local branch of the Métis Nation of Ontario is urging district residents to take photos that they feel represent Métis culture.
Photos can depict people, food, nature–the sky’s the limit.
Participants are asked to submit one photo each to MNO Métis Family Well-Being co-ordinator Brittany Bowman prior to 2 p.m. on Dec. 5.

The photos then will be displayed on canvas at the Fort Frances Museum during the month of January.
“You do not need to be Métis to participate,” Bowman told the Times.
“We welcome and encourage all community members to join the program and give their artistic take on Métis culture.
“I am hoping that I receive submissions from the entire Rainy River District to really show that Métis culture is alive and just how beautiful it is,” she added.
When asked to offer advice to photographers, Bowman replied: “Be creative. Express yourself and show your views on what Métis means to you.”
If you submit photos with people in them, they must give their consent as their photos will be displayed in a public place, Bowman advised.
