Plans underway for women’s retreat

The holiday season can be a whirlwind of activity so why not enjoy a day of calm before the storm?
The Rainy River District Women’s Shelter of Hope is hosting an all-day women’s holistic health retreat on Saturday, Nov. 25 at the Copper River Inn.
“Women never take time for themselves so it’s a day for women to relax and rejuvenate and get back in touch with themselves, especially before the Christmas season where women tend to take on everything,” outreach worker Heather Johnson told the Times.
The event, running from 9 a.m.-5 p.m., also is meant is to bring together women of the community and share their talents, knowledge, resources, and abilities, she added.
Tickets, which cost $50 each (includes lunch), are only available until noon this Friday.
They are available from her (271-5644), also well as at Curvy Chick (256 Scott St.) and Rainy River Cannabis Collective (520 Scott St.)
They also can be purchased online at eventbrite.ca
Confirmed presenters/speakers include personal trainer April Labbé (Energy Fitness, Heart & Hustle), followed by life coach Patti Phillips (Explore Life Coaching), who will speak on “healing your heart.”
Lindsay Hamilton then will hold a two-hour art therapy session, where women can exercise their creativity, followed by Jessica Wilson of Fort Frances Tribal Area Health Services, who will speak on the local anti-sex trafficking initiative.
Allene Perusse and Cheri Tolton Whatley will do a presentation on mindfulness and meditation, and close the event with a 15-minute meditation session.
Jolee Nick of Pure Bliss and Beyond Organics Spa will be providing mini-massages through the course of the day while Pamela Murray, from Reiki White Rose Holistic Healing, will be conducting Reiki session–a Japanese form of touch therapy.
There will be lunch and breaks throughout the day, noted Johnson.
There also will be door prizes while every attendee will leave with a gift bag, including a copy of the Brene Brown book, “The Gift of Imperfection: Let Go of Who You Think You’re Supposed to Be and Embrace Who You Are.”
Talented local youths Piper Lidkea and Callahan Wiedenhoeft also will provide some live music.
In addition to buying a ticket, there’s still time to contribute to the event in other ways, said Johnson.
Anyone interested in setting up an information booth or donating a door prize is asked to call her at 271-5644.
Johnson said if the retreat is successful, she is hoping to expand it to a three-day event next year.
