“Tbaytel for Good” is excited to announce the winners of its Fall, 2017 Good Schools and Good Community programs.
Seven winners from across the region have been awarded grants totalling $16,250 for their projects that will have a real impact in building stronger and healthier Northern Ontario communities.
Five grants of $1,250 were presented to recipients in the Good Schools category while two grants of $5,000 were given to not-for-profit organizations in the Good Community category.
A total of 61,024 public votes were cast for 15 semi-finalists based on their video submissions that were made available online.
The final winners and their vote counts were:
Good Schools
1. Open Roads Public School Project Water Safety (10,198);
2. Sturgeon Creek School Outdoor Classroom (6,531);
3. Crestview Public School Crestview Leadership Team Anti-Bullying Campaign (5,653);
4. New Prospect School Outdoor Rink Community Hub Project (2,378); and
5. Superior Collegiate & Vocational Institute Aboriginal Student Committee (1,826).
Good Community
1. Stratton Best Start Hub Cultivating Outdoor Creativity in Kids (16,544); and
2. Hospice Northwest Die-alogues: Talking to Kids About Death (11,738).
“‘Tbaytel for Good’ called upon the region to get innovative with their ideas for doing more good in their schools and communities this fall,” noted Amy Meunier, director of Marketing and Communication.
“Our Tbaytel judges were truly impressed with the quality and diversity of ideas submitted,” she said.
“From unique art festivals and creating sensory community spaces to innovative ways of engaging children in difficult dialogue, and unique programs that help youth in transition to adulthood, we know that Northern Ontario is willing and ready to make our region a better place.”
