RRCC spikers lose close one

The Rainy River Community College Voyageurs’ women’s volleyball team lost a close match Tuesday night against Itasca in Grand Rapids.
Set scores were 17-25, 26-28, and 33-35.
Karli Phillips led the Voyageurs with 28 set assists, 15 digs, and four ace serves.
Clara Palm also served really well, winning 17 of 18 to go along with four aces.
Sandy Thompson had 10 kills while El Wilform had eight.
Former Muskie Chelsea Kabatay also had a good hitting night, notching six kills and one solo block.
“She is really doing a good job for us,” Voyageurs’ coach Mel Millerbernd said of Kabatay.
RRCC was coming off a 3-0 sweep over Vermilion last Wednesday night (Oct. 11).
Set scores were 25-7, 25-10, and 25-10.
Kabatay shone in that one with five ace serves.
Tionna Terry had seven kills, with Thompson notching six and Wilform five.
The Voyageurs sit in fifth place in the eight-team MCAC with a 5-7 conference record (8-11 overall).
They next head to the Crossover Tournament today and tomorrow at Anoka-Ramsey.
