Several members of the Muskie cross-country team have advanced to the OFSAA championships next month.
The Midget girls’ team, led by bronze-medallist Greta Fedoruk (16:11), took first place in the 4K race at the NWOSSAA championships yesterday in Thunder Bay.
Fellow Muskie Ashlyn Beck finished fourth (16:39), followed by teammates Jaida Norris in seventh (17:19) and Grace Kowal in eighth (17:51).
The Muskie junior girls also ran to a first-place team finish in the 5K event.
Tori Toriseva captured the bronze medal individually with a time of 23:54.
Kamryn Sandelovich wound up in seventh place, followed by Star Martin in 12th and Alacea Yerxa in 17th.
Both teams qualified for OFSAA coming up Nov. 4 in Petawawa.
The Muskie junior boys and senior girls had a tougher day yesterday in Thunder Bay but still ran strong races.
In the junior boys’ 5K race, Romeo Deafy took 17th spot (22:59) while Ben Olsen (24:14) and Stephen Dueck (25:16) finished 23rd and 24th, respectively.
Tori Beaudry (34:58) finished 22nd in the senior girls’ 6K race, with Shaelyn Tuesday coming in 42nd (45:05).
As a team, Fort High placed third overall against the 19 secondary schools competing at NWOSSAA.
“This is Fort High’s best result ever in NWOSSAA competition and the first time we have ever sent eight runners to compete at the provincial level,” coach John Dutton enthused via e-mail.
