Photo contest winners named

Press Release

Local MP Don Rusnak hosted an event at his Thunder Bay constituency office last Thursday to recognize the winners of the “Thunder Bay-Rainy River Through Your Lens” photo competition.
As part of the “Canada 150” celebrations, Rusnak put a call out to constituents back in February to submit photos of the riding to be compiled into a calendar that will be distributed across Thunder Bay-Rainy River.
A total of 13 winners were selected from dozens of submissions.
First-place winner Greg McDougall also will have his photo featured on the cover of Rusnak’s annual Christmas card to be distributed across the riding and to MPs and senators in Ottawa.
In addition to having their photos appear in the calendar, each winner received a special “Canada 150” pin out of copper from the roof of the Parliament buildings.
A very small number of these pins have been crafted and distributed through MPs’ offices across the country, making them a unique commemorative item.
“We received many outstanding photos from across the riding and were extremely impressed with how much talent we saw,” noted Rusnak.
“It was difficult to select just 13 photos for the contest since there is so much beauty in our riding to capture,” he added.
“I look forward to seeing the completed 2018 calendar and Christmas card.”
The other winners included Kate Gialiotti, Genevieve Lester, Shae Dauphinee, Donna Price, Trisha Erin Wilson, Md Nur Hossain, Jakub Sisak, and Christine Johnston.
Cole Jewett, Chad Kirvan, Natalie Corinthe, and Stephen Hui rounded out the winners.
