Town council will be receiving some input on the 2018 municipal budget at its regular meeting tonight.
While no one is on the agenda to make a verbal presentation, council will be receiving written submissions, including:
•a request for sponsorship of the OFSAA provincial high school curling championships coming up here March 21-24;
•a request for road upgrades on Elizabeth Street West and York Avenue North (Fifth Street West to Sixth Street West);
•a request for a full-time museum assistant at the Fort Frances Museum; and
•a fireworks funding request for Canada Day from the “Fun in the Sun” committee.
Even though they’re not on the agenda, citizens still have a chance to provide their input this evening, town clerk Lisa Slomke said.
“We do have a spot on the agenda for other verbal submissions,” she noted.
Slomke added interested groups or individuals need to have their request written, so it can be handed over to her for town records as their request moves through the budget process.
“I would suggest that they appear by 7 p.m., otherwise we will likely have moved along,” she stressed.
The committee of the whole will meet first at 5:30 p.m., but will go in-camera for an indefinite length of time to discuss one item (a human resources matter).
This meeting will be preceded by a special committee of the whole meeting at 4 p.m., at which council will discuss five matters in-camera with their solicitor, including an update on the Point two-chain matters, Point Park litigation, other litigation, an update on governance matters, and a highway maintenance and repair agreement.
The regular council meeting will follow the committee of the whole meeting.
Other business on tonight’s agenda includes:
•the presentation of more “Canada 150” volunteer pins and certificates;
•two public meetings re: tax adjustments for properties located at 333 Third St. W., 335 Third St. W., and 602 Fourth St. W.;
•a public meeting re: the town stopping up, closing, and selling off portions of Flinders Avenue to the Northwest Catholic District School Board;
•a verbal update re: the 2017 Citizen of the Year Award;
•a bylaw to approve an easement agreement with the Township of Alberton; and
•a bylaw to approve an agreement Nortrax Canada Inc. for the purchase of a wheeled excavator through a public tender process.
