Senior girls finish 1-3

Dan Bird expected scoring to be a sore spot for his team this season.
So far, he looks to be a soothsayer.
The co-coach of the Muskie senior girls’ basketball team watched his squad exceed 21 points just once in four games as they went 1-3 to finish tied for fourth with the Churchill Trojans in Pool ‘B’ of a tournament in Thunder Bay over the weekend.
On the flip side, though, Fort High’s losses were only by three, one, and two points–an indication the Muskies are not that far from a larger win output.
The Muskies lost their first game 24-21 to the Dryden Eagles.
Mandy Tourond had a game-high 10 points for the Eagles, while Andrea Schram netted six for the Muskies.
Fort High fired up its offence in its second game, blowing past the Kenora Broncos 44-28.
Janissa Judson had 13 to lead the Muskie attack, with Tyra Waite replying with six for Kenora.
The Muskies then had several players get on the scoreboard, but just not with very many points each, as they fell 13-12 to Churchill.
Madison Morrison was the top scorer with just two points.
In their finale, the Muskies were nipped 21-19 by the Superior Gryphons (Thunder Bay), who topped Pool ‘B’ by going 4-0.
Jyllian Westover had nine points to lead the black-and-gold, who played their NorWOSSA regular-season opener yesterday in Kenora against the Broncos (score unavailable at press time).
