Consider giving to Christmas appeal

Oh my, December has arrived!
I aim to have my outside Christmas lights ready to go for Dec. 1. I have nothing up and ready to go.
I would skip doing it, but I enjoy that part. The worst part is I am out of town most of this week, so I won’t be working on it during the week.
The good part is we vaccinated and dewormed the cow herd this weekend so that job is behind us!
It went very well, and I think we finished in record time.
There was enough time to get my horse in and trim his feet and deworm him as well. There is nothing better than the feeling of accomplishment!
I was not impressed with the soil conditions though bringing the cattle home. There is no frost.
I hauled a load of hay closer to the barnyard and in more than one spot I didn’t know if I was going to make it.
It is a mess and now that mess will freeze. I am working on using up some of the hay that we left south of my place because the elk are really eating it.
The roads are so icy that hauling a big load of hay isn’t a great idea on any size of hill. Well, at least for me–I can talk myself into a stressful situation easily!

I am sure that you have all received your Christmas appeal mailing from the Riverside Foundation for Health Care.
Please, if you are able to donate, do so!
The item selected this year will benefit the surgical team. If you, or any of your family members needs any laparoscopic surgeries, the MIS Tower will benefit them.
“Care Close to Home” is important to me and my family.
As well, our Foundation director, Allison, has purchased a set up a beautiful tree in the lobby at La Verendrye Hopsital.
Now, to complete the decorating, she is selling ornaments!
You can purchase one of three sizes leave and message and it will be hung on the tree.
Stop in and see Allison, her office is in the lobby. The tree is beautiful and really suits the open space.

The Rainy River Soil & Crop Improvement Association’s annual meeting is all set for Thursday, Dec. 12 at 7 p.m. in the board room at Emo Feed.
We are fortunate to have Christine O’Reilly from OMAFRA joining us to discuss “Grass Utilization” and Joanna Follings also from OMAFRA to chat about “Maximizing the Potential of Cereal Production!”
I am counting on you all to join in and show up since these two ladies are making the trip up to see us.

The Sales Barn Building Committee has started the planning process.
We have a big job ahead of us, but this is how the barn was built in 1960–a group of hard-working farmers that can see the benefit of marketing cattle in the Rainy River District.
Last week, a few people and some handy equipment spent a few days at the sales barn and cleaned up our fire mess.
A great job done again by volunteers and equipment donations.
Thank you to those that have helped and continue to help.
