The Fort Frances Lakers will be fine with not seeing Clayton Brown for a while.
After scoring a pair of goals here Friday, Brown netted the game-winner on the power play last night in Hoyt Lakes to give the Minnesota Iron Rangers a 3-2 victory and a sweep of the teams’ pre-season series.
The Lakers had built a 2-0 lead within the first five minutes of the second period on goals by Jordan Sgro and Ian Tookenay.
Zach Hayes trimmed the deficit with a man-advantage marker at 7:32 of the middle frame, then netted the equalizer midway through the third.
Brown’s goal came with just over two minutes to go.
Jackson Nelson made 21 saves to earn the win while Michael Binczyk had 23 stop in his Lakers’ debut.
The Lakers next will face the English River Miners tomorrow at 7:30 p.m. at the Ice For Kids Arena.
Then they’ll head to Red Lake on Saturday for the rematch to close out their exhibition schedule.
The Lakers open the SIJHL regular season Sept. 22 by hosting the Thief River Falls Norskies.
