Nancy Evans, Taylor Jorgenson, and Dwayne Sinclair were the big winners at the Kitchen Creek club championships over the weekend.
Evans shot a 92 to beat Judi Dickey by four strokes to claim the women’s crown while Jorgenson carded a 72 to also win by four shots over Muskie golf coach Jonny Lundon in the men’s division.
Sinclair had a 77 to pull out a one-shot victory over Greg Tighe and Gerry Hercun, with Tighe getting the tie-breaker nod on a countback.

Kitchen Creek also hosted a night golf fundraiser on Friday.
The team of Char and Shane Bliss, along with Keira and Steve Chown, were triple winners for the evening.
The quartet led all golfers with a score of one-under in the nine-hole competition, and also won the prizes for best-dressed team and being closest to the pin on #7.
About $370 was raised to go towards the golf course’s new beer cart.

The Fort Frances Mud Dogs, with a couple of imported talents helping the cause, won the ‘B’-side championship at a women’s fastball tournament in Kakabeka Falls over the weekend.
Usual Mud Dog players Jodie Hood, Rachelle Yeo, Sarah Glover, Kaily Greengrass, Jenny Chivers-Wilson, Shilo Beck, Christine Jean, Michelle Cain, and Heather Wright were joined by the Dawson Tigers’ duo of Shelby Nosan and Meghan Bourgeois, as well as coach Derek McKinnon.

It was another up-and-down week for former Muskie Chelsea Kabatay and the rest of the Rainy River Community College Voyageurs’ women’s volleyball team.
RRCC picked up its first MCAC win this season last week with a 3-0 sweep of the visiting Fond du Lac Thunder from Cloquet (25-19, 25-14, and 25-17).
The Voyageurs then headed to Coon Rapids for the Anoka-Ramsey Golden Rams tournament.
RRCC lost its opener 3-1 (25-21, 15-25, 25-14, and 25-18) to the Dakota County Tech Blue Knights (Rosemount) before getting swept by the Bethel JV Pilots of Mishawka, Ind. (25-16, 25-17, and 25-13).
The Voyageurs did finish on a good note, though, by beating the host Rams 3-0 (25-18, 25-18, and 25-18).
RRCC resumes action tonight in Hibbing against the Cardinal before the Voyageurs host the Itasca Vikings of Grand Rapids on Friday at 6:30 p.m.

The first-annual “Run for the Donut” 5K event will take place Saturday, Oct. 7 at the Lions Park in Emo.

The Fort Frances Sportsman’s Club annual skeet shooting tournament, scheduled for Saturday at its Frog Creek range, was cancelled due to a lack of participants because of either illness or lack of availability.
Plans are in place to bring the tournament back next year.

Devlin native Jenna Walsh (nee Enge) and her rinkmates had a rough ride at the Pinty’s Grand Slam of Curling Tour Challenge in Regina last week.
The Sudbury-based team of skip Tracy Fleury, third Crystal Webster, Walsh at second, and Amanda Gates at lead went 0-4 to wind up last in Pool ‘C’ of the women’s division.
