The search is on again for new Crown Attorney here.
Colleen Hepburn will step down as the Crown Attorney for Rainy River District, effective Sept. 15, the Times learned yesterday from the Ministry of the Attorney General.
“The ministry has begun the recruitment process for a permanent Crown Attorney position for the District of Rainy River, which includes Fort Frances, and we hope to fill this position as soon as possible,” it said in an e-mail.
“In the interim, until a new Crown Attorney is hired for the district, prosecution supervision and resources will continue to be provided from the neighbouring jurisdictions in the North Region,” it added.
Hepburn started April 21 after being selected by the ministry to fill the permanent position left vacant when former Crown Attorney Robert “Buster” Young retired more than a year ago.
The news comes just a couple of weeks after town delegates met with Attorney General Yasir Naqvi regarding a review of the justice system in Rainy River District.
That includes the need for an assistant Crown Attorney, as well as a resident judge.
