Emo set to launch run/walk program

Press Release

The Township of Emo will offer a free walk/run program beginning in late August into the fall months.
Rainy River Running will offer people of all abilities the opportunity to get active in an encouraging, supportive group setting.
“Whether it be high school students looking to get in shape for cross-country season, someone with a goal of training for a 5K, 10K, or half-marathon, or someone looking to meet up for a walk, we will offer individualized plans to meet each person’s specific goals,” said program leader Tara Allaire.
“What we are offering is the chance for people in the community to meet up and get active, regardless of what their fitness goals are,” she noted.
The program, for ages 12 and up, will run Tuesdays and Thursdays at 5:15 p.m. beginning Aug. 29.
The group will meet at the Emo Lions Park pavilion, with all registrants to receive a free Rainy River Running T-shirt.
The Township of Emo received funding for the program from the Ontario Sport and Recreation Communities Fund.
“This program is an initiative of the Township of Emo to increase physical literacy for our residents by helping them to develop a foundation for lifelong physical activity,” said Emo CAO Bridget Foster.
The program will run throughout the remainder of August and September, culminating with the first-annual “Run for the Donut” 5K on Saturday, Oct. 7.
Those interested in participating can contact Foster at the township office at 482-2378 or via e-mail at township@emo.ca
You also can drop by the first group session next Tuesday (Aug. 29).
