Jamie Davis was back, but his competition can be forgiven if they got all choked up about it for different reasons than normally attached to a homecoming.
The Devlin native and Fort Frances resident won his division-leading sixth feature race of the season in the WISSOTA Modifieds class after a one-week absence from Emo Speedway during Borderland Racing Association action this past Saturday.
Davis beat division leader Brody Strachan of Emo to the line, with Strachan second and brother Jeff Davis of Devlin third.
Strachan stretched his lead over the younger Davis atop the standings, moving up to 591 points, with Jeff Davis second at 559 and Rainy River’s Tyler Brown moving into a third-place tie with Ron Korpi of Fort Frances (524).
Jamie Davis is currently fifth with 518 and decided to make it an easier night on himself and possibly his fellow racers when he declined to run in the WISSOTA Midwest Modifieds group, where he also leads the division with seven feature victories.
That opened the door for Jeff Davis to take the checkered flag in the feature over runner-up Jason Williamson of the Fort and third-place Jake Rea from Devlin.
Reigning division champion and current points leader Cody Ossachuk (Pinewood) was sixth and had his lead over Williamson in second trimmed to 32 points as his 596 is currently ahead of Williamson at 564.
James Lambert of the Fort sits third (547).
In the Street Stocks class, Tylar Wilson of the Fort made it back-to-back feature wins as he nabbed his sixth feature victory of the campaign ahead of Emo’s Jesse Thompson in second and Jake Froemke (International Falls) in third.
With division leader Kevin Desserre (Dryden) placing seventh, Wilson (430) moved closer into contention of catching Desserre (462), with Froemke third overall right now (406).
Racing action continues on Saturday, with hot laps set for 7 p.m. and the green flag dropping at 7:30 p.m.
