Ontario plans to deploy more than 150 additional personnel to British Columbia over the next few days.
There currently are 430 staff supporting B.C. in its fire management efforts.
The 140 Ontario personnel from the first wave of resources Ontario provided to B.C. in mid-July are expected to return home later this week.
Ontario also has provided firefighting equipment to B.C., including 10,000 lengths of fire hose, two structural protection units, and more than 200 pump kits.
On the local fire front, one new blaze was confirmed yesterday in the Northwest Region.
Sioux Lookout Fire #16 was listed as “not under control” at two hectares in size.
Nipigon Fire #18 was reported Saturday. This 0.5-ha blaze was last reported as “being observed.”
As well, one new fire was confirmed in Dryden District by Friday evening but it has since been declared “out.”
One fire of note in the region is Nipigon Fire #9, which is located in the far north.
This lightning-caused blaze, first reported on July 1, is now just over 13,000 hectares in size but is burning to natural boundaries of rivers and streams.
FireRangers are doing limited suppression on the southeast area of the fire, and have placed sprinkler protection on some remote cabins.
The forest fire hazard ranges from “low” to “extreme” across the Northwest Region, with the highest hazard in the northern sectors.
