A total of 93 complaints regarding government organizations, municipalities, and schools in the Kenora/Rainy River riding were filed with the Office of the Ombudsman of Ontario in 2016-17.
The annual report from Ombudsman Paul Dubé stated that between April 1, 2016 and March 31, 2017, the Town of Fort Frances got seven complaints, the Township of Emo got two, the Township of Atikokan received two, and the Town of Rainy River got one.
While the report, which was released June 27, does not specify what each complaint was about, none of these municipalities were named among the 76 complaints about closed municipal meetings reviewed by the Ombudsman’s office.
The Rainy River District Social Services Administration Board received a total of seven complaints.
Elsewhere in the riding, the Township of Pickle Lake got four complaints, the City of Kenora received one, the City of Dryden got one, and the Kenora Catholic District School Board got one.
Confederation College received two.
The balance of the 93 complaints presumably were to government organizations and programs located in the Kenora/Rainy River riding.
In his report, Dubé reported most of the 21,328 cases his office received in 2016-17 (the first complete fiscal year of this new jurisdiction) were “quickly resolved, without formal investigation-demonstrating how we work effectively behind the scenes.”
The Office of the Ombudsman of Ontario is an independent office of the legislature that resolves and investigates public complaints about Ontario government organizations, municipalities, universities, and schools.
