The Rainy River District Women’s Fastball League has announced the two teams for its annual all-star game set for next Wednesday (July 19) at Manitou.
The teams were picked by Stacy Patey of the Fort Frances Her-icanes and Kayla Windigo of the Red Gut Babes, the two captains from last year’s league finalists.
Patey, who will be in the game herself as an outfielder, also selected teammates Laureen Hill at pitcher and Sarah Noonan at shortstop.
Her other choices included Darcy Smith (Northwest Bay) at the pitcher’s spot, Micaela Jack (Big Grassy) at first, Angela Copenace (Sabaskong) at second, Connie Smith (Northwest Bay) at third, and Jannelle Andy (Big Grassy) and Kaily Greengrass (Mud Dogs) at catcher.
Also chosen were fellow outfielders Charmaine Hunter (Dawson) and Summer Leonard (Manitou), along with utility players Beulah Perreault and Krystal Windego (both from Red Gut).
Team Windigo will include herself and Meghan Bourgeois (Dawson) at catcher, pitchers Tracy Morningstar (Red Gut) and Rylee Redford (Fort Frances Angels), Darcy Jones (Couchiching) at first, Dana Ward (Fort Frances Her-icanes) at third, and Trish Smith (Northwest Bay) at shortstop.
Also selected were outfielders Taylor Windego (Red Gut), Morningstar Tom (Emo), and Teresa Smith (Northwest Bay), along with Jenn Singleton (Couchiching) at the utility spot.
Big Grassy’s Roxanne Handorgan (second base) and the Mud Dogs’ Shelby Tymkin (shortstop) also were picked by Windigo, but they are unable to participate.
Stephanie Racine (Couchiching) would have been selected, but the all-star captains were informed beforehand that she also would be unavailable to play.
