Alzheimer walk to go rain or shine

Get your comfy shoes on.
The annual “Walk for Alzheimer’s” is slated for tomorrow, offering 2K and 5K walks along the waterfront here.
Registration begins at 10 a.m. at the Sorting Gap Marina, with a warm-up set for 10:45.
The walks then will begin at 11 a.m., followed by a barbecue.
Organizers are hoping for about 30-50 people to turn out, although last year there were 60, noted Mary Carter, program and events co-ordinator for the Alzheimer Society of Kenora-Rainy River Districts.
While some participants have pre-registered and have been collecting pledges online for weeks, that’s not a requirement to take part, Carter stressed.
And it’s not too late to get involved.
“Walkers are more than welcome to show up the day of,” she enthused.
“We will not turn anyone away.”
Participants can make a donation when they register tomorrow if they choose.
Tax receipts are provided for donations over $10.
While the forecast is calling for a chance of showers and thunderstorms, Carter said the walk will go ahead regardless.
“We will be walking rain or shine,” she remarked.
“The Investor’s Group Insurance in Fort Frances has graciously donated a tent to our event.
“Walkers and spectators should be prepared for all weather conditions,” Carter added.
“We will make the best of everything.”
The Alzheimer Society is asking participants to bring a photo of who they are walking for, or they can write the name of the individual on the “Memory Wall” that will be at the Sorting Gap.
They also suggest bringing a lawn chair or blanket to sit on for the festivities afterwards.
All proceeds from this event will go to supporting the Alzheimer Society of Kenora/Rainy River Districts’ programs and services.
“The funds will remain in our district and will directly impact our communities,” Carter assured.
