The Muskie track-and-field team discovered there’s a large gap between NWOSSAA success and OFSAA achievement.
Three members of the black-and-gold had their first taste of facing the best in the province as the all-Ontario championships kicked off yesterday in Belleville.
Carson Noga’s time of 56.93 seconds in the Midget boys’ 400m was faster than his NWOSSAA silver-medal time (57.64) but still only good enough for 22nd out of 24 runners at OFSAA.
Aaron Scheibler, meanwhile, was unable to match his NWOSSAA-winning distance of 12.17m in the Midget boys’ shot put, recording a top throw yesterday of 10.59m to wind up 21st out of 24 entrants.
Then earlier today, Jill Calder finished last out of 23 starters in the Midget girls’ shot put.
But her best toss of 8.14m was almost a full metre farther than the 7.17m that earned her sixth place at NWOSSAA.
Other Muskies scheduled to compete today include NWOSSAA double gold-medalist Sean Huziak (Midget boys’ javelin), Sekina Scheibler (senior boys’ discus), and NWOSSAA champion Grace Petsnick (Midget girls’ high jump).
Huziak and Aaron Scheibler also will compete tomorrow in the Midget boys’ discus, with the pair having finished 1-2 at NWOSSAA.
