Women’s soccer a go

Local women will be able to get their kicks on the soccer pitch this season after all.
Borderland Soccer League president Chris Sinclair announced yesterday on the league’s Facebook page that the upcoming campaign will include a two-team women’s division to go along with four teams for the men.
It looked like the women would not get to play this year due to a low number of registrants midway through last week.
But Sunday’s deadline was effective in getting enough players to split into two teams–a combined La Place Rendez-Vous/Taggs team with 21 members and Al’s Racquet Stringing featuring 20–who will play each Monday evening all summer.
Players still can sign up, with new registrants being taken until July 13.
As well, temporary player permits will be available for any visiting players for up to four games during the season.
Due to the shorter schedule, the registration fee for the women’s division is being reduced from the original $100 to $75, with those who already have paid the first amount to get a $25 refund.
The four-team men’s division will take the field from Monday through Thursday each week.
An exhibition night will be held this Thursday, with the regular season beginning Monday for both divisions.
