Dam work

dam work

Boise Paper and H2O Power LP have been continuing to refurbish the canal and dam sluice gates at the dam here. A very noticeable element of the project has been cranes–the taller one of which is used to hoist materials and equipment from mill property onto the barge, which the smaller crane has been placed on. The work includes replacing 15 wooden gates, which were installed in 1909 during the original construction of the generating stations, with steel gates. The guides and sills also are being replaced to reduce leakage and to ensure reliable operation. The existing steel gate frames and the gate lifting machines will be retained. The work began in the summer of 2015 and is scheduled to be finished later this year.
