One traditional adult recreational league just barely survived the chopping block, but another is facing its own possible demise.
The women’s division of the Borderland Soccer League is in crisis mode due to a lack of players for the upcoming season.
“This [women’s] season is in jeopardy if we don’t get more numbers,” president Chris Sinclair said in a post on the league’s Facebook page on Monday.
“We can try to accommodate playing schedules around other activities [fastball, softball, etc.],” he noted.
“However, if numbers don’t improve by the end of the week, the season will be non-existent.”
The league executive decided to waive the $25 late fee on top of the $100 registration fee for one more week, extending the deadline to the end of Sunday.
The situation is similar to the one that confronted the local adult mixed slo-pitch league, which only was rectified in the nick of time this past week.
That league also was slated to shut down because there appeared to be not enough teams to get things rolling this season.
But that matter was resolved over the past week–with five teams set to compete.
Meanwhile, the men’s soccer league is in better shape than their female counterparts, but players still are being sought for all teams at this time.
