Campers weren’t the only ones to be disappointed by the extended stretch of soggy weather over the long weekend.
The Borderland Racing Association suffered its first cancellation of the season Saturday night at the Emo Speedway when rain washed out the action after just one heat in the WISSOTA Midwest Modifieds.
Racing is scheduled to resume this Saturday, with hot laps set for 7 p.m. and the first race at 7:30 (weather permitting).
Moisture also nixed a makeup game in the Rainy River District Women’s Fastball League that had been planned for Monday between the Fort Frances Angels and Sabaskong Tebinaak at the St. Francis Sports Field.
Having already been postponed once from May 15, the game now has been shifted again to a still undetermined date.
The league will hit the field tonight for five games beginning at 7 p.m.
The Angels and Mud Dogs will clash at the St. Francis Sports Field in an all-Fort Frances battle between two of three teams tied for fourth at 2-1.
Also part of that trio are the Emo Renegades, who will be on the road against 10th-place Sabaskong (0-2).
With the first-place Fort Frances Her-icanes (4-0) holding the bye tonight, the Big Grassy Lynx and host Couchiching Lady Raiders will take their respective 2-1-1 records into a second-place showdown against each other.
The seventh-place Manitou T-Birdies (2-2) will look to keep the last-place Dawson (0-3) winless for the season when they meet on the Tigers’ home turf in Pinewood.
Rounding out tonight’s action will be the Red Gut Babes (1-3) at home to the Northwest Bay Beavers (0-2-2).
Meanwhile, the Rainy River District Fastball League was affected by something other than the meteorological mayhem Sunday in its attempt to get in a makeup game between the Barwick Blue Knights and host Manitou Thunderbirds.
With several Blue Knights players unavailable, the game never took place, although it still was being determined if it will be made up later or if Barwick decides to forfeit.
If the Blue Knights do so, that will end their regular-season undefeated streak, which included all 18 games last season and the first game of this year.
Yesterday’s schedule called for all 14 teams to be in action (scores unavailable at press time).
Then tomorrow at 6:30 p.m., the defending champion Sight & Sound Wolves will host Manitou while the Fort Frances Braves welcome the Couchiching Raiders.
Windey’s Warriors are home to the Stratton Eagles, the Rainy River Royals travel to Barwick, the Dawson Tigers visit the Sabaskong Lakers, and the Sabaskong Cubs and Sabaskong Goldeneyes will duke it out for early-season bragging rights there.
Another same-reserve battle will feature the Northwest Bay Chieftains and Juniors.
