Local bowler to head zone

A local bowler is taking over as president of the Sunset Country 5 Pin Bowling Association.
Times’ editor Mike Behan was elected to the position during the SC5PBA’s spring meeting held Sunday morning in Dryden.
Behan, who has been president of the Fort Frances Bowling Club for the past three years, officially begins the two-year term in September.
He replaces Norm Sanders of Dryden, who chose not to seek re-election after serving several years as SC5PBA president.
“It’s a tremendous honour to be elected as zone president,” said Behan.
“I know I have big shoes to fill in taking over from Norm, but I’m eager to step up to help promote five-pin bowling here in Sunset Country and right across Northern Ontario,” he added.
A new treasurer also was elected Sunday, with Linda Lacroix to take the reins from fellow Kenora resident Betty Bouchard.
The rest of the SC5PBA board includes Kim Pavey of Kenora (vice-president) and Terri Hamilton of Dryden (secretary).
Sunset Country is made up of four houses: Fort Frances, Dryden, Kenora, and Balmertown.
It is one of six zones making up Northern Ontario, with the others being Cambrian North (Sudbury), Gateway (North Bay), Gold Belt (Timmins), Nickel District (Sudbury), and Thunder Bay.
