Makenna Henttonen of Fort Frances had two assists to help Ontario to a 4-1 victory over Quebec on the opening day of play in the girls’ division at the 2017 National Aboriginal Hockey Championships in Cowichan, B.C.
Henttonen and fellow forward Annalise (CC) Hayes of here are the two Rainy River District reps on the squad, with Hayes being held off the scoresheet yesterday.
Ontario clashed with Manitoba this afternoon in its only game of the day.
In boys’ play, Ontario dumped Quebec 10-1 margin to also win its first game.
Defenceman Izzy Smith and goalie Seth McKay, both from Fort Frances, are on the Ontario team.
Smith was held off the scoresheet yesterday while it was unknown at press time if McKay saw any action in the game.
The team’s schedule for today also was unknown at press time.
