Math team lauded

A seven-member team of Grade 7 and 8 students from Robert Moore School here were among the 141 students who participated in the 21st Northwestern Ontario Association for Math Education Math Olympics at Superior Collegiate in Thunder Bay on Saturday.
The Rainy River District School Board has been attending the competition since 2001 as a way to engage and challenge students in mathematics.
The students faced a variety of mathematical challenges, including logic problems, algorithm games, tangrams, and problem-solving.
Corbin Riches of Robert Moore School placed second among all Grade 7 boys while Grade 8 student Gavin Morrisseau finished in the top 10.
Teachers Sonja Bodnarchuk and Dana Kosowick were pleased with the performance of the team, which also included Ingrid Ellis, Ayiana Gagne, Anna Gagne, Joyce Wu, and Olivia Eldridge.
Both said the team did a great job representing the school and the board.
