Press Release
The laboratory at Riverside Health Care here has achieved ISO 15189 Plus certification from the Institute for Quality Management in Healthcare (IQMH).
This international standard for excellence requires the medical laboratory to standardize processes and procedures for its quality system, as well as technical requirements.
The implementation and maintenance of a quality management system allows continual improvement to ensure the reliability and accuracy of test results.
This certification follows a rigorous assessment, and is in addition to the mandatory accreditation by Ontario Laboratory Accreditation and Accreditation Canada.
Accreditation engages all staff in the lab, and allows them to take pride in their work and show their commitment to quality.
Receiving ISO accreditation provides proof that Riverside’s Laboratory Services department diligently is reviewing processes and gives the public confidence that problems will be identified before they affect patient care.
Our laboratory staff at Riverside consists of medical laboratory technologists registered with the College of Medical Laboratory Technologists of Ontario and a certified medical laboratory technician.
All are committed to providing timely, accurate test results in a safe, efficient manner.
More than 100,000 lab tests were reported by the Riverside lab last year.
The certification coincided with National Medical Laboratory Week.
“It is our time to celebrate and promote our profession,” said Toni Benning, laboratory manager at Riverside.
“It is the perfect opportunity to display and share our new ISO 15189 Plus status.
“I am proud of the staff in our lab and their dedication to producing quality results,” she added.
