They were pretty good against older competitors.
Against their own age group, the newer members of the Muskie track-and-field squad were fantastic.
The black-and-gold racked up 27 medals at the Junior High Bronco Booster Invite for Grades 7-9 at Falls High School on Friday.
That lifted Fort High to second place overall in the women’s 8th & 9th Grade division with 127.5 points, behind only the host Broncos (213).
The Muskies also finished third the women’s 7th Grade category with 76 points–just behind runner-up Northome/Kelliher/Blackduck (78).
The Broncos took top spot (98).
Even the small-sized Muskie crew in the men’s 8th & 9th Grade group made their mark, tying for third with Bigfork at 70 points.
The Falls (154) and Eveleth-Gilbert (87) finished 1-2.
Grace Petsnick led all Muskies with four individual medals, including gold in the women’s Grade 8-9 100m (14.65 seconds), 200m (30.65), and high jump (4’8″), along with a silver in the long jump (12’5.75″).
Kianna Antonick collected a medal of every colour, taking top spot in the women’s Grade 7 400m (1:15.76), second in the 200m (33.00), and third in the high jump (3’8″).
Greta Fedoruk and Kamryn Sandelovich, meanwhile, each nabbed up two medals, as did Carson Noga and Sean Huziak.
The Muskies’ relay teams also had a big day–combining for five medals.
