It was no easy task to determine who were the best of the best in the Fort Frances Girls’/Women’s Hockey Association this past season.
But decisions had to be made and those considered the most deserving were given their just rewards at the FFGWHA’s year-end banquet Sunday at the Memorial Sports Centre.
Former Muskie superstar Jill Langtry, who went on to play four years for the University of Maine Black Bears in NCAA Division I, was the guest speaker.
Ron McKinnon was chosen to receive the Tracy Coran Builder Award for his contributions towards female hockey in Fort Frances while Brianne Lapointe was named the Larry Tucker Novice of the Year Award winner.
Here are the award recipients for each team:
•Novice Bruins–Aelise Lucas-Engberg (most improved), Shayna Shute (most dedicated), Ella Evans (most sportsmanlike), and Marlee Bliss/Addison Chown (co-MVP);
•Novice Heat–Chloe Allen (most improved), Ashlee Homer (most dedicated), Ayanna Savage (most sportsmanlike), and Davilyn Miller (MVP);
•Atom Panthers–Jersey Rose (most improved), Logan McPherson (most dedicated), Courtney McCoy (most sportsmanlike), and Kiera Fairnington (MVP);
•Atom Dynamite–Portia Spuzak (most improved), Eva Gerstner (most dedicated), Marissa Kenny (most sportsmanlike), and Piper Miller (MVP);
•Atom ‘B’ Leafs–Taryn Oster (most improved), Kiera Fairnington (most dedicated), Eva Gerstner (most sportsmanlike), and Piper Miller (MVP);
•PeeWee Lightning–Haleigh DeGagne (most improved), Shay Mannausau (most dedicated), Shaylynn Marchuk (most sportsmanlike), and Savannah McGinnis (MVP);
•PeeWee Fusion–Alexa Yerxa (most improved), Macy Holden (most dedicated), Ellayna Kabel (most sportsmanlike), and Abbie Kenny (MVP);
•PeeWee ‘B’ Leafs–Raelle Redford (most improved), Kianna Antonick (most dedicated), Shay Mannausau (most sportsmanlike), and Ellayna Kabel (MVP);
•Bantam Thunder–Isabella Hyatt and Eva Morrisseau (co-most improved), Ashlyn Beck (most dedicated), Martina Woods (most sportsmanlike), and Abigail Maclam (MVP);
•Midget Screaming Eagles–Hannah McKee-George (most improved), Danielle Cridland (most dedicated), Shannon Bird (most sportsmanlike), and Bryanna Dustin (MVP);
•Midget Snipers–Jaiden VanDulmen (most improved), Hannah DeGagne (most dedicated), Carlee Beazley (most sportsmanlike), and Maighyn DeGagne (MVP); and
•Midget ‘B’ Leafs–Tori Sheppard (most improved), Allie Jackson (most dedicated), Maddy Morrison (most sportsmanlike), and Katelyn Gurniak (MVP).
