All the favourites held serve, save for one.
Fourth-ranked Bump It Up was the only one of the top four seeded teams entering last night’s opening draw of the Fort Frances Women’s Volleyball League playoffs that wound up leaving with a mark in the loss column.
Fifth-ranked Gillons’ defeated Bump It Up–dropping the losing squad to the ‘B’ bracket of the double-elimination playoffs.
Gillons’ beat 12th-seeded Rockstars in its first match last night, then downed Bump It Up, which had received a first-round bye along with the three other top seeds.
Bump It Up will look to stay alive against 11th-ranked Arm & Hammer, which fell to sixth-ranked Let’s Talk About Sets last night.
But Let’s Talk About Sets then was dropped to the ‘B’ side with a loss to third-seeded Kiss My Pass and now will face Rockstars in a win-or-go-home matchup next week.
Eighth-ranked The Inseiners downed ninth-seeded One Hit Wonders in the first round last night.
But then they ran smack into top-ranked and defending champion How I Set Your Mother, which won to advance to the ‘A’-side finals against Gillons’.
The Inseiners now need a victory in a ‘B’-side battle against 10th-ranked Serves You Right, which lost in the first round to seventh-seeded Scared Hitless last night, to remain in the title hunt.
Scared Hitless, meanwhile, couldn’t get past second-ranked No Diggity in the ‘A’-side quarter-finals and will have to beat the One Hit Wonders to extend their season.
Playoff action resumes next Thursday at 7 p.m. at both Fort High and St. Michael’s.
