Kicker Instinct wished her drought had lasted one more week.
Hughes, shaking off a foot injury, netted a hat trick to help fourth-place Goal Diggers beat first-place Kicker Instinct 4-1 in Borderland Women’s Indoor Soccer League semi-final action last night.
Kicker Instinct had finished atop the regular-season standings with a 6-2 record (with both losses coming by forfeit).
But even with leading scorer Paige Nelson unavailable last night, the Goal Diggers (2-6) didn’t just roll over.
Adyson Wilson-Hands had their other goal.
League scoring champ Katie Beninger had the lone marker for Kicker Instinct.
The squad never fully recovered from losing last year’s Golden Boot Award winner, Maggie Jean, following a concussion midway through the season.
They also was missing defensive ace Becky Selman.
In the other semi-final between two 4-4 teams, D-Feeters earned a berth in the final after Tough Enough forfeited.
D-Feeters will face Goal Diggers in the final next Wednesday (April 5) at Fort High.
It will follow the third-place game between Kicker Instinct and Tough Enough at 7 p.m.
