Four Fort Frances bowlers weren’t content with being below average.
Mildred Bedard, Rita Bagacki, Evelyn Barker, and Gary Vittie captured the Club 55 Cup Sunset Country zone title at Plaza Lanes on Monday by being the only one of the four teams to end up on the plus side in the pins-over-average showdown.
Their combined score of +47 over four games propelled the team to first place and a berth in the Club 55 Cup provincial championship April 22 in Azilda (near Sudbury).
They will be joined by the second-place team from Dryden of Louise Morin, Jack Welch, Martin Johnson, and George Bates, who crafted an overall score of minus-19.
Well back in third was Dryden’s foursome of Brenda Hazlewood, Pauline Kressall, Joyce Lowe, and Stan Hazlewood (minus-134).
They nosed out the second Fort team of Sylvia Beadle, Betty Robinson, Jim Fowler, and Ken Dick (minus-140).
