Press Release
The new “Guide to Eating Ontario Fish” has been published and provides easy-to-use information about the types and amounts of fish that are safe to eat from more than 2,400 fishing locations across Ontario.
While fish can be an important part of a balanced diet, they also can contain harmful contaminants.
Based on their size, type, and location, certain fish may be more suitable to eat than others.
The Ministry of the Environment publishes the guide every two years and Ontarians are encouraged to use this resource to learn:
•the sizes and amounts of fish you can safely eat;
•how to choose fish with the lowest levels of contaminants;
•how to prepare fish to reduce contaminants; and
•about special advice for children and pregnant women.
The guide is available online at www.ontario.ca/page/eating-ontario-fish-2017-18
